Justice has not been done - 2010
Introduction
Muslim violence against Christians in Pakistan often makes international news. One form of violence common to many Muslim nations is the abduction of Christian girls, who are then raped, forced to convert to Islam, and/or married to Muslim men. Thousands of cases have been documented. Shazia Bashir was one such, kidnapped and forced to work as a maid in a Muslim home in Pakistan. There the twelve-year-old girl was raped and killed by the wealthy Muslim homeowner. The district court of Lahore returned a verdict of not guilty, claiming insufficient evidence.
An article appeared on this day 27 November 2010 in Agenzia Fides, the news service of the Pontifical Mission Societies, reminding the world of this atrocity. It quoted Nasir Saeed, head of the Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement. (The Centre sees many such cases because it provides free legal assistance to Christians in Pakistan.) Saeed said:
Quote
“For the family of Shazia justice has not been done. It is not the first time that, in cases like this, the outcome of the process leaves influential Muslim citizens unpunished, despite the atrocities committed on poor and helpless Christians.”
“No justice for Shazia Bashir, the Christian girl raped and murdered.” http://www.fides.org/en/news/27881?idnews=27881&lan=eng#.VeHST1pA9dJ.
