Love Your Neighbor
Today's Devotional
The love of our neighbor is deducible from our love of God. No man who thinks himself bound to love and obey God can believe he is at liberty to hurt or oppress those who are included under the care and protection of the common providence of God. No man who tries to please God can fail of being kind and tender towards those who are the children of God. Where our duty towards our neighbor is clear, we may be certain that our duty to God concurs with it.
About the author and the source
First Thoughts, whose author is identified only as J.P., provides a short Bible reading for each day of the year—usually three lines or less—and a short commentary that indicates the gist of the text. According to J.P., “It assumes that the true Christian desires… that his ‘first thoughts’ should be holy thoughts.”
