Trust is proven by action
Today's Devotional
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever—Psalm 125:1 (NIV).
Whoever believes God for the event, believes him for the means also. If the patient dare trust the physician for his cure, he dare also follow his prescription in order to achieve it. And therefore, Christian, sit not still and say your sins shall fall, but put yourself in array against them.—Gems of Thought.
Jehovah, as a redeeming, a new-covenant God in Christ, is a proper object and ground of confidence to sinful men. True believers have seen, and are persuaded of this, by the illumination and teaching of the Holy Spirit. They have accordingly placed their dependence on God in this view, and expect their safety and happiness in and from him. They look to him in every time of need, with a believing expectation; and, according to his promise, trust in him for support, protection, deliverance, relief, and comfort. Their hearts are fixed, trusting in him, and they enjoy a sweet peace, and inward tranquility, of which no outward events, however distressing, can ever deprive them; they are still safe, and their minds may well be easy in the persuasion of it.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the rock of ages, on which the church, and all true believers rest; and.… they are not only as a mountain, supported by Providence, but a holy mountain, supported by promise.… True believers in Jesus shall not be removed; they shall never be shaken, either from their integrity, or their confidence in God. —Scripture Monitor

About the author and the source
Gems of Thought is from the writings of “an eminent divine of the 17th century”—identifiable as William Gurnall (1616–1679), author of The Christian in Complete Armour (1655). Rev. J. [John] Craig (d. 1851) was the first minister at Avonbridge, near Falkirk, Scotland, where he served forty-seven years until his death at seventy-one. In 1819, he published The Scripture Monitor, the second source in today’s devotional.
