Be generous

Title page of Daily Communion

Today's Devotional

Morning:

So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people—Galatians 6:10 (NASB).

Mercy through Jesus we have found,
Free mercy from above ;
May mercy move us to fulfil
The perfect law of love.

Noon:

A generous person will prosper—Proverbs 11:25 (NIV).

Ah! not to self, ah! not to self,
Let thinking souls devote their powers;
But, spurning folly, ease, and pelf.
For God and man employ their hours.

Evening:

Do I practice daily kindnesses?—(read Genesis 40).

Did I this day for small or great,
My own pursuits forego,
To lighten by a feather’s weight
The mass of human woe?

About the author and the source

Daily Communion’s anonymous author gives for each day of the year a morning vow of obedience, a noontide help (described as a “midday barrier against worldliness”), and an evening voice of self-examination based on a Scripture verse.
