A hymn a day pushes anxiety away
Today's Devotional
This is the gate of heaven. Genesis 28:17 NIV.
Behold the entrance gate of heav’n,
Where Jesus saith, “I am the way;”
Where knowledge of his word is giv’n,
Which points to an eternal day.
Our voices shall unite to praise
Our Father, God, through Christ his Son;
We’ll seek the Spirit’s aid to raise
Our acclamations to his throne.
And while we listen to his voice,
Our faith shall rest upon his word;
And every humble soul rejoice
In what his gracious lips afford.
About the author and the source
Late in the 1830s Nicholas Hellings found himself anxious and overwhelmed by his duties. As a calming measure, he decided to write a hymn for each day of the year based on the daily Scripture given by the Christian Almanack. Here are four stanzas from the hymn he offered for the third Sunday of January.
