Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau.

Introduction

Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, was a successful soldier, noted for building the Prussian army into a major force through intensive drilling. His most famous battle occurred when he was just over seventy years old. He routed the Saxons at Kesselsdorf on this day, 14 December 1745, defending Prussia against one element of a two pronged attack by Austria and Saxony. A devout Lutheran, Leopold offered the following prayer before his great victory:

Quote
