Memorable composer recognized God’s sovereignty - 1777

Mozart wrote a number of beautiful religious works.

Introduction

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed some of the most memorable music ever written. This included a good deal of church music, including a setting of the penitential psalms of David, the lovely Missa Brevis in B flat major, KV275, with its haunting “Benedictus” section, and the beautiful Coronation Mass, KV317. His life does not seem to have been in keeping with Christian character. Nonetheless, in several letters he recognized the sovereignty of God. When he was twenty-one, he toured South Germany in company with his mother. His father seems to have been concerned for his behavior, showering Mozart with exhortations by mail. On this day, 25 October 1777, Mozart replied from Augsburg with reassurances for his father.

Quote

“Tell papa to put aside his fears; I live, with God ever before me. I recognize His omnipotence, I fear His anger; I acknowledge His love, too, His compassion and mercy towards all His creatures, He will never desert those who serve Him. If matters go according to His will they go according to mine; consequently nothing can go wrong,—I must be satisfied and happy.”
